Q.  Do you work in a consulting capacity?

A. Resurg’s profit improvement methodology is tailored to stock and service-based businesses. Much of our knowledge is applicable to any type of business in these areas. Resurg may be able to assist you with private consulting even if you are not undertaking our programs. Call us on (02) 9319 0522 to discuss your needs.

Resurg is also available for private consulting work with any business operator in its benchmarking, workshop or performance group programs.

Q. Can I just do some benchmarking, without having to attend workshops or join a performance group?

A. If your franchisor or group is offering Resurg’s programs to members, then yes, you can just take part in the benchmarking program. The cost is very reasonable, and your individualised benchmarking report contains a wealth of information on the KPIs of your business and your standing within the group.

But here’s why we think you should do more than the ‘Review’ phase of our profit improvement methodology.

The benchmarking report is just the first step; by itself, it is not going to magically improve your business or its profit. You need to DO something with the report beyond reading it and sticking it on a shelf.

Small business operators are very busy people — when are you going to make the time to analyse the report and then devise and implement actions based on the results? You need to make ‘appointments’ to keep the ball rolling. Book in for a workshop that will help you to analyse your report and identify what needs to be addressed. You need to ‘Learn.’ how to put your results into action.

Performance groups reinforce the ‘Improve’ stage of our methodology. By now you will know and understand the KPIs of your business and any knowledge gaps have been filled in. Now it’s time to start making the changes that will move the KPIs, improve profit, and increase the asset value of your business.

The performance group, which comprises 10 non-competing proprietors plus a facilitator, holds you accountable for making those changes. It is a peer review/support group that is eager to hear if the change worked, to offer feedback, to share new ideas, to tell you what worked for them and what did not. This is how best practices are transferred between businesses in a lasting, effective way. And this is how you will improve your profit and business value.

Q. Do you run public workshops?

A. At this stage, Resurg does not offer public workshops. Workshops can be booked for in-house delivery by groups that undertake our benchmarking program, or by groups that wish to address a skills deficient or to offer a professional development opportunity to their business owners. Q. I am just a single small business but I am very keen to do some benchmarking and learn how to improve my profit.

A. We do conduct two annual, industry-wide benchmarking programs in retail hardware and retail travel that any business, of any size, single or from a group, can join. These can be particularly useful to single or small-group businesses within these industries. Resurg works predominantly with business groups, so entry to and the results of those benchmarking programs are restricted to those groups.

Q. I know the business owners/managers in my group are struggling with stock management skills. I’ve heard that Resurg has a very good stock management workshop — can I get you to run it for us?

A. Skills such as stock management are applicable in any stock-based business. Resurg will conduct its stock management workshops in-house for any stock-based business, regardless of whether it is undertaking a Benchmarking Program.
